Product Owner

Role Summary

Notify Technology is a fast-growing safety tech business headquartered in the North of England.

Our software empowers organisations in high-risk industries to build a safer, healthier world of work for their employees through data-driven intelligence. It gives leaders real-time oversight of their organisation’s health and safety performance, maximising compliance whilst unlocking insights that protect people and profits.

As a growing SaaS company, we are looking for a Product Owner who can work closely with customers, internal teams and engineering to ensure we build products that solve real problems and deliver meaningful value.

We are looking for someone with an AI-first mindset – someone who actively explores and applies artificial intelligence tools and automation to multiply the impact of a lean Product function. The goal is not to scale the team, but to scale what the team can achieve through smarter tooling, intelligent automation and continuous improvement.

The Role

The Product Owner plays a central role in ensuring Notify delivers valuable and usable product improvements for our customers.

You will work closely with the Head of Product, internal stakeholders and our engineering team to understand problems, shape solutions and guide development priorities. You will manage the product backlog and help ensure development effort is focused on delivering the highest-value improvements.

This role combines customer insight, prioritisation and delivery collaboration to ensure Notify builds the right things effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Insight & Product Discovery

  • Engage with customers and internal teams to understand real-world workflows, challenges and opportunities.
  • Conduct discovery activities such as customer conversations, feedback analysis and workflow exploration.
  • Validate product ideas and improvements before development, where possible.
  • Maintain a clear view of customer feedback gathered from Sales, Customer Success, Support and other teams.

Contributing to Product Direction

  • Work closely with the Head of Product to inform product strategy and roadmap decisions.
  • Provide insight and recommendations based on customer feedback, product usage and market understanding.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Notify’s product suite and overall platform capability.
  • Ensure new functionality fits well within the wider Notify product ecosystem.

Product Outcomes & Performance

  • Help define success measures for product initiatives.
  • Monitor product usage, adoption and feedback to understand how delivered functionality is performing.
  • Recommend improvements or iterations based on evidence and customer insight.

Backlog Management & Prioritisation

  • Manage and prioritise the product backlog so engineering effort is focused on the highest-value work.
  • Apply structured prioritisation considering customer impact, business value, effort and strategic alignment.
  • Ensure backlog items are well-defined and ready for development.

Product Delivery & Engineering Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering teams to clarify requirements, priorities and acceptance criteria.
  • Provide clear context on the problems being solved and the intended outcomes.
  • Play an active role in the Agile process, taking part in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives, leading on backlog refinement and engaging with the engineering team throughout delivery.
  • Collaborate with engineers on technical trade-offs, balancing customer value with product quality and platform sustainability.
  • Write user stories, requirements and supporting documentation where needed.

Product Launch & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work with Sales, Customer Success and other teams to support the introduction of new functionality.
  • Ensure internal teams understand the purpose and value of product improvements.
  • Communicate progress and gather feedback to ensure strong cross-team alignment.
  • Keep the wider business up to date on upcoming releases, beta programmes, emerging risks, changes of direction or priority, value being created, key customers/use-cases that will benefit etc.
Contribute to GTM efforts, with customer-ready release notes and training content.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in a Product Owner, Product Manager or similar product-focused role.
  • Experience working closely with engineering teams in an Agile delivery environment.
  • Experience working with Agile frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban.

  • Strong communication skills, able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of how product decisions support business goals.
  • Ability to translate customer problems into clear product requirements.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.

Product & UX Awareness

  • Understanding of user experience principles and the importance of intuitive, usable product design.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers to shape solutions that are both effective for users and practical to build.

Professional Development

Notify supports continuous professional development and will provide opportunities for training and growth. Individuals in this role are expected to take an active role in developing their skills and knowledge as part of their ongoing career development.

Courage to think for themselves and make decisions based on available information

We all commit to making decisions based on data, and we have the courage to accept that we’ll still get some decisions wrong some of the time – that’s life!

Support other members of the team, and our clients

Our clients are helping keep people safe, they are often unsung heroes. Our first loyalty is to them and to each other because we share a common goal.

Constructive dissatisfaction

Every time a job is ‘done’ we’ll stand back and ask: ‘could we do it a bit better next time?’. We produce great work, but we’re humble enough to go looking for the next improvement. We celebrate success but seek more.

Continuous personal development

None of us think we’re the finished article. We have a lifelong love of learning. We read books, watch TED talks, attend conferences and generally enjoy finding out about things we didn’t know.
