Role Summary
As QA Automation Engineer at Notify, you will be a core part of a small, focused QA team responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our product suite – a multi-tenant SaaS platform used by organisations worldwide to manage health, safety and compliance.
Working alongside a QA Lead and a Manual Software Tester, you will own and evolve Notify’s QA Automation Solution – building, maintaining and expanding an automated test suite that covers our web application (.NET 8.0 / Angular) and React Native mobile apps (iOS and Android). You will work closely with the development team to integrate automation into our CI/CD pipeline, and ensure that automated testing provides fast, reliable feedback at every stage of the delivery cycle.
We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in the quality of their code, thinks critically about what should and shouldn’t be automated, and is motivated to continuously improve. You should be curious, proactive and open to embracing AI-assisted tools and new approaches to test automation.
The ideal candidate will understand not only how to write and execute tests, but also how to think critically about quality, identify risks, anticipate edge cases and advocate for robust processes.
Job Purpose
To design, build and maintain a high-quality automation solution that validates Notify’s web, API and mobile applications efficiently and reliably. You will work hand-in-hand with the QA Lead and development team to ensure automation is well-integrated into the development lifecycle, contributes to a culture of quality, and keeps pace with a continuously evolving product.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Solution Maintenance
- Keep the QA Automation Solution up to date as the product evolves – ensuring existing tests remain accurate, reliable and continue to execute correctly following changes to functionality or the underlying technology.
- Proactively identify and fix failing, flaky or outdated tests, maintaining a high standard of automation quality at all times.
- Ensure the automation codebase adheres to Notify’s coding standards, guidelines and best practices, and actively look for opportunities to improve its structure, readability and performance.
- Conduct regular reviews of the automation solution to identify areas for refactoring, optimisation or modernisation.
Automation Solution Expansion
- Extend the QA Automation Solution to cover new features and changed functionality as they are introduced to the product.
- Write clean, high-quality automation scripts that thoroughly validate product behaviour and are easy to understand and maintain.
- Identify specific test cases that are good candidates for automation – discussing your approach with the Manual Tester and QA Lead to ensure coverage decisions are well-reasoned.
- Create and maintain a test coverage plan that clearly documents what has been automated, what is in progress, and what test cases remain to be automated.
Test Execution & Reporting
- Execute daily automated test runs and share results with the team in a clear, prioritised report that enables fast decision-making.
- Monitor and investigate test failures, distinguishing between genuine defects and automation issues, and acting on findings promptly.
- Log and document defects discovered through automated testing in Notify’s bug tracking system, with clear reproduction steps, expected vs actual behaviour and relevant supporting information.
- Contribute to quality metrics and reporting, providing the QA Lead with visibility of automation coverage, test run stability and defect trends.
CI/CD Integration & Collaboration with Development
- Work closely with the development team to integrate and maintain the QA Automation Solution within Notify’s CI/CD pipeline, ensuring automated tests run reliably as part of every build and deployment cycle.
- Collaborate with developers to identify ways in which automation can support and improve product development, and explore how product development practices can better support test automation.
- Participate in sprint ceremonies – standups, planning, reviews and retrospectives – contributing a QA automation perspective at every stage.
- Communicate clearly and proactively with colleagues about automation progress, issues and upcoming changes that may affect the test suite.
Learning & Innovation
- Stay on the leading edge of QA automation development practices, tools and technologies – bringing relevant ideas and recommendations back to the team.
- Embrace AI-assisted testing tools as they are introduced, using them to enhance the efficiency, intelligence and coverage of the automation solution.
- Share knowledge and learning with colleagues, contributing to a culture where quality and continuous improvement are shared values.
- Seek feedback and take advantage of mentoring and coaching from the QA Lead and wider engineering team.
Key Deliverables / Success Measures
Within the role, success will typically include:
- A well-maintained, reliable QA Automation Solution that keeps pace with product changes and executes correctly at all times
- Consistent expansion of automated coverage, supported by a clear and up-to-date test coverage plan
- Daily test execution with timely, well-structured reporting that gives the team clear visibility of product quality
- Clean, high-quality automation scripts that meet Notify’s coding standards and are easy for others to understand and build upon
- Strong collaboration with the development team, with positive feedback on integration, communication and shared quality ownership
- Visible adoption of new tools, practices and approaches that improve the capability and efficiency of the QA Automation Solution

We all commit to making decisions based on data, and we have the courage to accept that we’ll still get some decisions wrong some of the time – that’s life!
Support other members of the team and our clients
Our clients are helping keep people safe, they are often unsung heroes. Our first loyalty is to them and to each other because we share a common goal.
Constructive dissatisfaction
Every time a job is ‘done’ we’ll stand back and ask: ‘could we do it a bit better next time?’ We produce great work, but we’re humble enough to go looking for the next improvement. We celebrate success but seek more.
Continuous personal development
None of us think we’re the finished article. We have a lifelong love of learning. We read books, watch TED talks, attend conferences and generally enjoy finding out about things we didn’t know.
